Tokyo
We made it! The airplane ride was long. But they gave us plenty to eat. It lasted about 10 hours and was very hard to sleep. The space is cramped and it is hard to sleep sitting up. We slept very well at the motel last night.
We are going to worship service in few minutes. The motel is nice. We are all on the 17th floor. They have a hot water machine for hot tea, slippers and a kimono robe for us to use. I like it. I am going to drink a lot of hot tea this week.
This is the letter Randy Shannon sent out to those in his church.......
Greeting from the future
I say that because as we traveled west it got earlier and earlier in the day until we crossed the International Date Line and broke the space-time continuum...then "poof" it was a day later than it was for my Missouri Church Family. It's confusing to wrap your head around, believe me! In Tokyo it's 14 hours ahead of Missouri. I figured this out like a child in math class taking the answer in the back of the book and figuring backwards. We arrived in Tokyo at about 2 pm their time. My watch, still on Missouri time, said 12 midnight. I'm planning to just add two hours to my watch to try to remain grounded to "reality."
The flight over took about 10-11 hours from San Francisco. We were blessed by a great staff from United Airlines and they fed us like kings....starving kings.
The Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo is luxurious though a bit smaller portioned rooms than I am used to. I feel a bit like the proverbial bull in a China (or in this case, Japanese) closet.
We left Springfield, MO at 3 am on Thursday and arrived at the hotel about 25 hours later. Needless,, to say the main attraction last night was getting some sleep. Pretty well rested we now are preparing to head out for opening worship at General Assembly. We'll try to email when we can. So far, it's been a great time with many wonderful friends--both old and new.
God bless you until we meet again.
Randy and Vicki Shannon
